National Governing Bodies (NGBs)
National Governing Bodies (NGBs)
County sports partnerships have always played a key role in helping national governing bodies (NGBs) work with local partners to make the most of local opportunities.
Whole Sport Plans
Sport England invested £450m of National Lottery and Exchequer money into 46 NGBs between 2009 and 2013 to increase and improve participation and talent development in sport. These plans are coming to an end and can be downloaded from the Sport England website. PRO-ACTIVE East London has supported the implementation of a significant number of these plan in East London.
NGBs were at the heart of the Sport England Youth & Community Sport Strategy 2012-2017. Earlier this year, eligible NGBs submitted whole sport plans detailing how they plan to use the £490m National Lottery and Exchequer money to grow the numbers of people playing their sport once a week, as well as nurturing talent.
A summary of the Whole Sport Plan 2013-17 investment can be accessed here.
Regional and Sub-regional Engagement
It is anticipated that there will be a number of phases of readiness in relation to NGB discussions to understand the detail around what and how NGBs wish to work in London. Those NGBs that are ready to engage earlier will be supported to do so, whereas others will be supported to get the local information they need to feed in to the development of their delivery plans if this is required.
It is also anticipated that some NGBs will require some very local conversations that the Pro-Actives will help to broker whilst for others it may be suitable to work on a more regional basis.
Further information on NGB products and services will be available from Sport England in the week commencing the 4th of March and will be accessible here, in the meantime a summary of some of the headlines of some of the sports plans which has been gleaned from information from a variety of sources in the public domain is available here.
The Pro-Actives are planning a series of 3 engagement events across London. At this stage we would like you to hold the following dates:
- Engagement Event One – 16 May, location to be confirmed, proposed to be held in South/West London
- Engagement Event Two – 22 May, location to be confirmed, proposed to be held in North/East London
- Engagement Event Three – 20 June, location to be confirmed
Once the Pro-Actives have the detail around what and how NGBs wish to work in London invites will be sent to relevant partners to attend the engagement events.
Within London, the 5 PRO-ACTIVE partnerships have taken a coordinated approach to engaging with NGBs.
Each NGB has been assigned a lead PRO-ACTIVE who will discuss a pan London approach before individual sub regional Borough engagement takes place.
